'Under the Ink' was my passion project undertaken during my second year of university. Tattoos are an extension of who someone is at their core and their experiences throughout life. This photographic series uncovers the unique, beautiful stories that lie beneath the skin of those who have tattoos. Each model was invited to share whatever they wanted to say about their tattoos, whether that be their significance or meaning, how they make them feel, and the stories connected to them via handwritten notes so that their voices could be heard unadulterated. These handwritten notes accompany each model’s respective photographs. The project also touches on discussions surrounding negative bias and stereotypes held against people with tattoos.
